JPD Arrest a Man For Capital Murder of a 1-year-old Child

The Jackson Police Department and U.S. Marshal Task Force officers arrested a man for the murder of a 1-year-old in Jackson. JPD announced that 31-year-old Herman Coleman, also known as Herman Arthur Gardner, was arrested and charged with capital murder. 

On December 21, 2023, JPD began an investigation after a child was brutally beaten in the 3500 block of Sunset Drive. 1-year-old Protégé Hunter died, and her mother, Yolanda Hunter, was charged with capital murder and felony child abuse in December. Her bond was set at $10,000. 

At the time of the child’s death, four other children were found at the residence and placed in the custody of Child Protection Services. The cause of death was a lacerated liver caused by blunt force trauma.
