Traffic stop leads to arrest of Robert Hunt Sr

VICKSBURG, Miss. – A traffic stop for a speeding vehicle on Highway 61 N yesterday morning led to the discovery of marijuana and a felony amount of Ecstasy, a Schedule II narcotic, according to officials.

“On Thursday, February 20, 2025, a narcotics investigator conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle in the area of Highway 61 North. During the stop, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle of Robert Hunt Sr.,” said Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones. “A probable cause search was conducted, leading to the discovery of a felony quantity of Schedule II pills and additional marijuana inside the vehicle.”

Hunt has been charged by the Vicksburg Police Department with felony possession of a Controlled substance (Schedule II), possession of marijuana in a vehicle, and speeding. His bond has been set at $20,000 and has now been bound over to the Grand Jury.

Warren County Detective Jeff Merritt assist in the initial stop. Based on the discovery of the Ecstasy pills, Det. Merritt petitioned a search warrant for Hunt’s residence, 4310 Woodland Hills Drive. The Search warrant yielded over a pound of marijuana, ready for sale; an AR 15; and a 9mm handgun. Vicksburg Police Department assisted in the search warrant.

Hunt was charged by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department with possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Hunt had his initial appearance before Justice Court Judge James Jefferson yesterday. His bond was set for $20,000.

“The Vicksburg Police Department Narcotics division and Warren County narcotics division continue to work together to identify, locate, and arrest those that those that are selling narcotics in the county, whether they are inside the county or city limits,” said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

This incident is part of an ongoing investigation in collaboration with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and the Vicksburg Police Department. No further details are available at this time.
