Man Stabbed in Vicksburg
VICKSBURG, Miss – A Vicksburg man was stabbed in the chest on Saturday night.
According to eyewitnesses, at around 7 p.m., two men had a disagreement while sitting near the corner of 2nd North at Clay. The dispute escalated, and one of them stabbed the other man in the chest. Eyewitnesses report the injured party was bleeding heavily from the chest area. The victim was able to walk into the SM Food Mart at that corner, seeking help.
Another eyewitness stated the injured party was quickly put into an ambulance and transported to an area hospital. An update on his condition is not available at the time of this report, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The suspect in the stabbing, who was known to people at the scene, fled the area on foot. Several VPD patrol cars circled the area near 2nd North and Clay, looking for the suspect.
An employee at the SM Food Mart reported to the Vicksburg Daily News they had an earlier altercation with the suspect in the parking lot.

At the time of this report, Vicksburg police Chief Penny Jones has not responded to requests for information on the stabbing, the condition of the victim, or if the suspect was apprehended.

UPDATE 9:21 a.m. – After the Vicksburg Daily News story was published, Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones posted this:
On Saturday February 15, 2025, officers responded to the 1400 block of Clay Street regarding a reported stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a 69-year-old Black male who had sustained an injury to his chest area.
A witness on the scene identified the suspect as Patrick Smith, a 49-year-old Black male, who had left the area before officers arrived. Victim was transported to River Region Medical Center, where he received medical treatment before being transferred to UMMC for further evaluation. He is currently in stable condition.
A warrant has been issued for Patrick Smith. The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information pertaining to the location of Smith, please contact Lt. Nguyen.
