Gulfport, Miss.-A Mississippi murder suspect has turned himself into police after being wanted for for killing a 75-year-old back in November in Gulfport, Mississippi. 27-year-old Ellis Townsend turned himself in on Friday to the Gulfport Police Department.

On November 18, 2024, around 11:26 a.m., GPD responded to the Dodge’s Southern Style on Highway 49 in reference to an assault.

When officers arrived on scene, detectives found 75-year-old Scott Miller of Gulfport, who stated he had been assaulted by Townsend, an on-duty security guard.

Detectives determined that Townsend struck Miller multiple times in the head with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground. Once he was on the ground, police say Townsend continued the assault until patrons of the business intervened and pushed him off.

Miller later died from his injuries on January 13. The attack was captured on video, which is part of the police investigation.

Police say Townsend is from the Greenville, Mississippi area.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
