Vacant home burns in Vicksburg
An early morning fire on Egan Ave was quickly extinguished by the Vicksburg Fire Department.
Just after 5 a.m., a neighbor reported smoke and flames coming from the structure at 612 Egan Ave.
The fire was on Egan Ave, not Dabney as stated in the live report.
Numerous units with the Vicksburg Fire Department including Engine 7 and Rescue along with Battalion 1 responded to the vacant structure. According to Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps, “Fire appears to have started in the dining area off the kitchen. Flames penetrated the ceiling causing damage to the roof, making it visible to neighbors.”
At one point a chainsaw was heard being employed by the fire department. “We did cut some holes into the structure to access the most beneficial area to extinguish the fire,” explained Chief Stamps.
There were no injuries in the fire and it is under investigation.
