A cold Thursday night consisted of a hard fought coed soccer match between Vicksburg High and Porter’s Chapel Academy. The Gators would end the night with a 2-0 victory.

“Overall a win is a win but I wish we would’ve played a lot better but I’m happy of the outcome,” VHS Head Coach Maurice Gilliam said.

Both the Gators and Eagles took turns forcing the ball down the field in the first half as the game remained scoreless. With just a couple of minutes left before halftime, Allan Allen earned the first goal with the assist coming from Amari Johnson. PCA’s Gavin Pugh already had 14 saves by halftime.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Dacion Brown scored the second goal for the Gators. A short time later, Pugh scored a goal but it was eventually called back for offsides as well as Braylon Green’s goal for VHS.

With PCA having no subs, they still managed to fight from start-to-finish with VHS as the Gators took home the win. Pugh finished with 19 saves.

“I’m very proud of them because we came into this game with 11 players and one of them started this week but they fought hard and a 2-0 loss to a 6A school wouldn’t make me mad,” PCA Head Coach Samantha Bailey said.

Both teams will return to action in January 2024.
