Vicksburg High School improved to 6-3 on the year after defeating Columbus 36-24 on Friday.

The Gators got on the board first when Ronnie Alexander connected with DeCorey Knight Jr. on a 24-yard touchdown pass. The Falcons made their way down the field on the next drive until sophomore Mickey Johnson picked off the pass. He caught another interception just a short time later.

Columbus found their way in the end zone from a long run along with a successful two-point conversion to take the 8-6 lead. VHS responded when Malik Montgomery bust through for a touchdown run as Shaun Archer Jr. provided some good blocking. Tyler Henderson caught the successful two-point conversion.

As Columbus attempted to score before halftime, Demarcus Johnson blocked and recovered a punt. That would easily setup a 31-yard touchdown pass from Alexander to Henderson along with a two-point conversion that gave VHS a 22-8 lead before halftime. Mincer Minor IV came up with an interception as well before the half.

Coming out of halftime, the Falcons drove the ball 57 yards for a score. VHS extended their lead after Alexander threw a nice pass to Collin Johnson for the score as Montgomery got the successful two-point conversion. Knight also picked up some key yards on that drive.

After a 49-yard run by Montgomery, he eventually took it in from six yards out for the Gators final score. Johnson finished with three interceptions.

VHS improved to 6-3 after the 36-24 win. They will host Ridgeland on Friday.
