VHS Freshmen Basketball Team Defeat No.1 Brandon High
Brandon, Miss.-Vicksburg High School‘s ninth-grade boys’ basketball team pulled off a shocking victory on Monday as they knocked off the No. 1 seed, Brandon High School. The Gators defeated the Bulldogs 65-53 to advance to the second round of the Little Six Tournament.
The first quarter was tied 7-7 as Deonta Selvy Jr. hit a 3-pointer and Jayden Stewart also got on the board. By halftime, the Gators were up 24-20 as Corbin Walker came alive and kept VHS ahead along with Jaylen Stewart.
VHS completely took over the second half where four players scored in double digits. Walker and Jayden Stewart led the Gators with 17 points each and Jaylen Stewart added 16. Selvy ended the game with 13 points and Jamari Johnson scored two points.
The Freshman team is led by Head Coach Julius Williams and they will be on the road on Thursday to face Clinton.
