Vicksburg Junior High Cheerleaders Earn Top Honors at Mississippi State Camp
STARKVILLE, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Junior High School cheerleaders recently attended a four-day summer cheer camp at Mississippi State University, where they brought home top honors and multiple awards for their outstanding performance.
The team began the week with high energy, diving into chants, stunts, and sideline material. Their enthusiasm and team spirit earned them the coveted Spirit Stick on the first day, setting a strong tone for the rest of the camp.
Throughout the week, the cheerleaders continued to build on their momentum. They learned advanced jumps, pyramid techniques, and new routines, earning a Superior Ribbon during evaluations and the Spirit Stick for a second consecutive day.
As the camp progressed, the team focused on refining their cheers and dances, earning another Superior Award along with a third Spirit Stick. Kristyana Walton was recognized with two major honors: the All-American Award in the junior high division for her leadership and skill, and the “Pin It Forward!” Award for exemplifying the values of teamwork and spirit.
On the final day, the team performed their full camp routine in front of coaches and judges. Their efforts paid off as they earned first place in the Camp Routine category and second place overall in Cheer Performance.
Coach Ashley Pendleton praised the team’s growth and dedication throughout the week.
“These girls showed up every day with passion and heart,” Pendleton said. “They’ve grown so much in just a few days, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the sidelines this season.”
