Vicksburg Police Department investigate recent shootings. One suspect still wanted.

Suspect identified in Grove Street shooting

On Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 1:16pm officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Grove and China Streets. On scene, they found a female victim sitting in a silver Chrysler 300 with a gunshot wound to her left thigh.

The suspect, Derrick Williams, Jr., 34, of Vicksburg had fled the scene on foot before officers arrived and is currently being sought. Williams is the boyfriend of the victim.
The female was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.

One injured in Alcorn Drive shooting

On Monday, October 9, 2023, at 4:49pm officers responded to an apartment complex on Alcorn Drive in response to a shooting. There, the officers located a 21-year-old male who had received a wound to his leg. The victim was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region for treatment.

The case is under investigation
