Vicksburg’s Gabby Andrews helps the Southern Misses Dance Team to a national title

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg native Gabby Andrews recently helped the Southern Misses Dance Team to a national title. Andrews and the Southern Misses competed in Orlando, Florida at the College Classic where they came out on top in the Hip Hop Dance.

“They announced second place and it wasn’t us so it was hard to breathe because I never saw myself doing this but we were so filled with excitement and I shed tears when it happened,” Andrews said.

Gabby is a sophomore on the Southern Misses Dance Team where they perform at the football, basketball, and volleyball games along with making multiple appearances throughout the year that fill their schedules. She also is a Forensic Biology major where she plans to be a Forensic Pathologist.

Just two years ago, Andrews was a captain on the Flashette Dance Team at St. Aloysius where she helped them to their eighth straight state title. A couple of years later, she continues to dance her way to championships on the collegiate level after finding much success in high school.

“I’m really happy that I get to showcase Vicksburg and have that legacy so that makes me proud because I’ll always have Vicksburg in my heart,” she said.

The Southern Misses Dance Team includes a select group of talented individuals who represent The University of Southern Mississippi. As a Southern Miss Spirit Squad, the Southern Misses’ primary focus is to support Southern Miss Athletics as well as increase fan support within the Hattiesburg area. The Southern Misses strive to generate a relationship between the local community and Southern Miss Athletics. Their contribution to the University includes performing at all men’s and women’s home basketball games, football pep rallies, and Sun Belt Basketball Tournaments.
