Vicksburg’s Janiah Caples signs to Clark Atlanta University

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)Janiah Caples, a sophomore from Vicksburg, has signed a basketball scholarship to continue her playing career at Clark Atlanta University. The signing was made official Wednesday night.

Caples spent the 2023–24 season at Mississippi Delta Community College, where she played under head coach Tangela Banks. The Lady Trojans finished the season 21-7 overall and 8-6 in conference play, earning a spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

Caples led the team in scoring, averaging 15.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Her top performance came in a 69-63 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College, where she scored a season-high 33 points.

Janiah began her college career at Pearl River Community College, appearing in 24 games as a freshman. Her best game there came in a win over Enterprise State University, where she scored 12 points.

Before entering the college ranks, Caples starred at Vicksburg High School under head coach Troy Stewart. As a freshman, she led the ninth-grade team to an undefeated championship season before moving up to varsity. She earned All-District and All-County honors, averaging 17 points per game as a senior and leading the team to a 25-7 record.

At Clark Atlanta, Caples will play under head coach Tony Bailey, who guided the team to a 24-8 season last year. She will reunite with former high school and college teammate Layla Carter, who also signed with CAU.
