Victim Of First Homicide Of 2024 In Jackson Is Child

The victim of the first reported homicide of 2024 in Jackson was tragically a 14-year-old child.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart identified the child as Eugene Kelly.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on Tuesday on Nimitz Street.

Jackson police said that a 15-year-old male juvenile was found laying in the yard with a single gunshot wound.

He was transported to University Medical Center by private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators are still gathering information from witnesses.

A red vehicle was seen fleeing the scene after multiple shots were fired from inside the vehicle.
