In the first voluntary report of shots fired in the city in over six months, the VPD reports “Shoots fired” near a locally owned business.

Just before 1 a.m., Jacques’s management called the VPD to report a fight on or near their property. Sources report security was able to break up the fight. A short time later, several units of the Vicksburg Police Department were seen at the location while a loud altercation was happening, a short distance from where the police cars were parked on Levee Street.

According to multiple sources, during the altercation, people in the parking lot pointed lights at the six police vehicles to draw their attention to the situation they were dispatched by 911 to address.

The public area altercation near Levee Street escalated, and gunfire was heard. The Vicksburg Daily News contacted Chief Penny Jones and asked, “Were any of the numerous police cars on the scene at Jacque’s hit by stray bullets?” The Chief responded, “No.”

The VPD report says a black Chevy Tahoe and a red Camaro may have been involved. The Tahoe fled the scene at a high rate of speed and was able to escape from the VPD.

In a similar incident

In a similar incident earlier this year, the VPD and Mayor George Flaggs did not report on a shooting that took place in the parking lot of Key City Brewery until the Vicksburg Daily News prompted them. In their report, the VPD claimed the vehicle involved in the incident that was seen being chased by several law enforcement units down Halls Ferry and through Marcus Bottom was not being chased. A suspect was identified and detained, but no charges were filed in that incident.
