VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central Junior High School girls’ track and field team delivered a strong showing at the state meet Monday, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 4×200-meter relay.
The 4×200 relay team of Tylah Caples, Sydney Davenport, Jere’ Henderson and Zayla Davis earned second place overall with a new personal record time of 1:49.27, securing a spot on the podium and bringing home medals.
Head coach Latoya Lumpkin praised her team’s effort and growth throughout the season.
“Every one of the girls competing set new PRs … they did awesome Monday and I am so proud of them,” Lumpkin said. “Their hard work, sweat and hard practices paid off. Even having to compete on their Easter holiday. I’m very happy for them that they were able to experience this moment so young. That’s definitely their goal going forward every season.”
The 4×400-meter relay team of Zayla Davis, Jada Hodge, Mary Austen Bullen and Jere’ Henderson also turned in a strong performance, finishing sixth in the state with a new personal record time of 4:35.46.
Individually, Sydney Davenport posted new personal records in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, placing sixth in each event.
