WC pulled off a hectic 16-13 win over Florence

Warren Central High School softball team orchestrated a dramatic comeback to secure a 16-13 victory over Florence in extra innings on Thursday.

Florence initially took control, amassing multiple hits, including a home run, to claim a 7-2 lead by the fourth inning. Kamryn Morson and Kennadi McKay contributed with singles for the Lady Vikes’ first runs. Subsequently, Florence extended their lead to 9-2 by the end of the fifth inning.

However, the tide turned in the sixth inning as Warren Central seized the momentum. McKay and Jenn Smith kickstarted the rally with singles, followed by Adalyn Anderson and
Makayla Jackson who delivered crucial doubles. MK Ferguson, Maddy Pant, and Tyra Bridges contributed with RBIs, propelling the Lady Vikes to score five runs and narrow the gap to 9-7.

In a remarkable turn of events, Warren Central surged ahead in the sixth inning, posting five additional runs. McKay’s triple and a pivotal three-run triple by Smith paved the way for
Anderson’s RBI single, putting Warren
Central in the lead at 12-9. Despite a valiant effort from Florence to tie the game at 12-12, forcing extra innings.

During the eighth inning, young talents McKay and Ferguson shined as they each smashed a two-run single, pushing Warren Central ahead 16-12. WC limited Florence to just one run in the eighth, allowing the Lady Vikes to clinch the hard-fought 16-13 victory.

Smith, with four RBIs, and McKay, with
two RBIs, both went 3 for 5 at the plate. Anderson, contributing one RBI, went 2 for 3, while Jackson, Morson, and Bridges each secured one hit and one RBI. Eighth-grader Ferguson impressed with three RBls and one hit.

The Lady Vikes struggled with in pitching as they allowed 18 hits. They will travel to face Germantown on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
