WC shutout crosstown rivals on senior night

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Warren Central High School baseball team celebrated senior night and their regular-season finale on Friday with a win over their crosstown rivals. The Vikings managed to shut out Vicksburg High School 11-0 in five innings to improve their record to 16-9 under Head Coach Randy Broome.

Last night’s win put the Vikings on a five-game winning streak and gave them an undefeated record(8-0) in district play. Seniors Maddox Lynch, Lester Martin, Hayden Blok, and Hayes Loper were all recognized with their families before the start of the varsity game.

WC got on the board first as Tristan Jamison was hit by a pitch. Trace Hood then sacrificed to bring in the second run of the first inning as Lester Martin made his way to the home plate.

By the end of the third inning, the Vikings were up 8-0 after picking up six more runs, beginning with Justin Evans scoring on a wild pitch. Jacob Kealhofer also scored on a passed ball just before Martin hit a 2-run double. Two more errors brought in a couple of more runs for WC as they took complete control of the game.

Caden Cole hit a double in the fourth inning and Lynch singled to bring in one run. Martin earned a walk while Hood was hit by a pitch to add two more on the board to give them an 11-0 lead.

The Gators were unable to get on the board and Seven West earned their lone hit of the night. 

Cole, Loper, Lynch(1 RBI), and Martin(2 RBIs) all finished with one hit in the win while Hood added two RBIs. The Vikings only allowed one hit while Beau Bradley and Justin Greer struck out three batters and Cole struck out two.

Peyton Calvin struck out three batters for VHS. 

WC will host Center Hill in their playoff game next Friday at 6 p.m.
