WCJHS is heading to the Little Six Championship
Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central Junior High School boys’ basketball team is heading to the Little Six Championship after defeating Brandon 39-31 on Thursday night. The win sends the Vikings to the championship game for the first time since 2021.
Friday night started off with strict defense as the Bulldogs went up 4-2 by the end of the first quarter. Jordan Taylor and Braylen Selvy managed to hit a couple of shots in the second quarter to give WCJHS some life but they still trailed 13-9 at halftime.
Coming out of halftime the Vikings began to look like themselves again as Ja’Ven Lee and Doss Morgan both got on the board while Henry Trisby and Jordan Taylor profited from the free throw line. The Vikings only allowed the Bulldogs to score two points in the third quarter while WCJHS put up 12.
As the Vikings regained the lead going into the fourth quarter, Henry Trisby and Jordan Younger put up some successful layups while Jordan Taylor, Morgan, and Lee kept WCJHS afloat with some key free throws.
Lee led the team with nine points while Morgan, Younger, Taylor, and Trisby all added seven points each. Selvy ended the night with two points.
The win gave WCJHS a chance to earn the hard victory after falling short to Brandon just a couple of weeks ago. They will now move on to play in the Championship Game which will be held at Byram Middle School on Saturday at 12:30.
