WC’s Chloe Barnard signs to Millsaps
In a ceremony held on Thursday, Warren Central High School’s Chloe Barnard signed a swimming scholarship to Millsaps.
Barnard started swimming at the age of 9 with the Vicksburg Swim Association. She also made the swim team at WC while in junior high at WC.
Barnard recently wrapped up her senior season at WC, where she helped the Vikings make it to the State Meet. She competed in the 50, 100, and 200-meter freestyle and other races. Under head coach Terry Wong, Barnard finished 11th in the state in the 50-meter freestyle.“This was one of my best seasons, and I felt closer to my team this year,” Barnard said. “Coach Wong has been like a father to me ever since I joined this team, and he took me under his wing.”
Barnard dominated for WC and is a star swimmer for the Vicksburg Swin Association, where she placed multiple times at the State Championship under Head Coach Alex Billings. “I love swimming under her because she’s so positive and supportive of our team,” Chloe added.
Chloe’s favorite memory from her years of swimming was receiving the “Captain’s Wrench,” which verified her as a team captain.
Barnard chose Millsaps as her next destination to continue swimming as a student-athlete, despite having other opportunities. “Coming from WC it’s not just the sports, it’s a family,” she said. I had that same feeling as soon as I met the Millsaps team and Coach Ware, and I didn’t have to try and fit in, so it felt like home.”
Barnard has earned some major accomplishments in swim throughout the years and didn’t hesitate to thank those who stuck with her along the way. “I want to personally thank my parents, Coach Wong, Coach Billings, Connor, Clark, Elizabeth and a huge shoutout to my swim team,”
Chloe is the daughter of Christopher and Shannon Barnard and will be a part of the digital arts program at Millsaps.
