Vicksburg’s Javeion Perkins signs basketball scholarship with Tennessee Valley

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg High School senior Javeion Perkins signed a scholarship Tuesday to play basketball at Tennessee Valley Prep, marking a major step in his athletic journey.

“It’s close to home, and they have a good program,” Perkins said during a signing ceremony held at VHS. “Plus, I know some people there, so I think it’s a good fit for me.”
Perkins emerged as a key player for the Gators during his senior season, delivering clutch performances throughout the year. One of his standout moments came in a 73-54 victory over McLaurin, when he scored a career-high 30 points.
“It felt good because I told my people I was going to put on a show — so I did,” he said. “I kept being the team’s leader.”
Introduced to the sport at age 7 by his uncle, Perkins grew into a reliable and explosive athlete under the guidance of Vicksburg head coach Kelvin Carter.
“That journey has been special,” Perkins said. “Ever since I moved up to varsity, I knew I would be something special.”
Though he put in the work to earn the opportunity, Perkins was quick to credit the people around him for helping make it possible.
“I want to thank God, my parents, my coaches and friends who supported me — and also my grandmother,” he said.
Perkins chose Tennessee Valley over offers from schools including Henderson State, Dean College and several others.
