VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —Taryn Lusby and Kinley Lott have been named captains of the St. Aloysius football cheer team for the 2025-2026 school year. Lusby will serve as head captain, with Lott as co-captain under the leadership of Head Coach Kirsten Golding.

Lusby learned at the beginning of the summer that she would serve as head captain, marking her first time in a leadership role.

“I’m very excited and happy that I get to do this and lead the team the best way I can,” she said.

Lusby began cheering in third grade as a member of the PeeWee Flashes and continued through junior high and high school, earning recognition for her skill and dedication. Last year, she was named an All-American, earned the Team MVP award, and received the Pin It Forward award.

One of her favorite memories was cheering during last year’s overtime win over Winston Academy.

“The energy was crazy, and we were all having a good time,” Lusby said.

As captain, she is responsible for teaching cheers and chants and collaborating with the Flashettes on themes. She also participates in Diamond Girls, basketball, National Honor Society, and Key Club. She is the daughter of Jimbo and Jennifer Lusby and plans to attend the University of Mississippi to become a veterinarian. She is also a fan of Bell Racing.

As co-captain, Lott helps teach chants, chooses outfits, and helps maintain the team’s strong bond.

She also began cheering on the PeeWee team and has grown into a standout performer known for engaging the crowd. Her favorite memory was the school’s “lights out” pep rally.

“It was so much fun, and there were no elementary kids there,” she said.

Lott was also named an All-American last year at camp. She is a member of the Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and Diamond Girls.

She plans to attend Mississippi State University next year and hopes to go on to medical school. She is the daughter of Brian and Brooke Lott.
