Domestic violence complaint filed against Vicksburg police officer over alleged threats
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A local woman has filed a complaint accusing a Vicksburg police officer of making threats toward her. The officer is also the father of her child.
According to a report filed Tuesday with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the woman provided text messages she said were sent by the officer. In the complaint, the woman claims the officer accused her of posting about him on a social media app, Tea, and then threatened her in a series of messages.
The woman said she denied making the posts and told investigators that the officer texted her statements such as “Don’t play dumb before I slap the f— out of you” and “Stop playing on his name before I punch you in your f——- mouth.”
She also told investigators that after the alleged threats, she asked him to bring milk for their child, but he refused and told her to pick it up herself. The woman said she warned him she would request a police escort if she had to meet him.
The sheriff’s office report notes that the woman showed deputies the messages on her phone.
This morning, Judge Marcy Southerland ordered a domestic violence restraining order on the officer.
The Vicksburg Daily News reached out to the new Vicksburg Police Chief, Larry Burns, regarding this matter. While Chief Burns admitted he was just being brought up to speed regarding this incident, he had the following to say.
“While I’m chief, we are committed to the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Vicksburg, and I’m committed to making sure that officers are held to a higher standard, period—on and off duty,” said Burns. “We’ll do our investigation, and if our investigation shows he’s violated policy in some way… we’ll deal with it accordingly.”
