VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy closed out its regular season with a tough 38-24 loss to Christ Covenant on Friday night, a setback that sends the Eagles on the road for the first round of the MAIS Class 1A Division I playoffs next week.

Despite the loss, running back Tommy Green delivered a standout performance. Green scored all three of Porter’s Chapel’s touchdowns on runs of 8, 40, and 2 yards, finishing with 158 rushing yards on the night. His first touchdown came in the opening half, while his final two helped the Eagles rally in the second half before Christ Covenant pulled away late.

On defense, Lakelan Pecanty led the team with 10 tackles, followed by Auston Moore with 9, Schaffer Bell with 5, and Corvin Finch with a sack. Green also contributed with four tackles.

The Eagles will now travel to Sylva-Bay Academy in Bay Springs next week for their playoff opener on Friday. The game will be held on Halloween night between the two teams where the winner will advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Sylva-Bay Academy is currently 4-5 on the season after last night’s win over Prentiss Christian Academy. They won 46-14.
