Auditor’s office arrests former H.W. Byers Athletic Director

JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — State Auditor Shad White recently announced Special Agents from his office have arrested Nick Coln, former H.W. Byers Athletic Director, for allegedly embezzling funds from the school.

Coln allegedly received funds through CashApp from student athletes to purchase athletic equipment and then converted those funds to his own personal use.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for theft of taxpayer money at the Auditor’s Office,” said State Auditor Shad White. “Thank you to our investigators who helped uncover this scheme.”

Coln faces up to $5,000 in fines and 5 years in prison. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
