NATCHEZ, Miss. (VDN)Warren Central High School boys’ basketball team opened its season with a 60-55 win over Natchez High School on Tuesday night.

The Vikings, who are still missing some key players due to the ongoing football season, managed to hold control throughout the game to start the season 1-0 under head coach Keith Williams.

“The guys played hard tonight and many of them made some big plays, so I’m proud of how we played as a team,” Williams said. “We can’t stop here and we have to keep fighting, but I’m satisfied and extremely pleased with how some of these guys chipped in to help us win.”

In the victory, the Vikings had three players score in double figures. Davon O’Neal led the way with 17 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds. Jaylen DeFrance added 15 points and four rebounds, while Deric Gibbs Jr. contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Avery Williams had six points, Landon Burks three points and Camryn Walker two points.

Williams also noted that Kylan Randle played strong defense throughout the night, which helped secure the win.
