WC, St. Al boys pick up Thursday wins; VHS falls in tight finish to Forest Hill
YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s boys’ basketball team bounced back from Tuesday’s loss with a 75-65 road win over Yazoo County on Thursday night. The Vikings were powered by four players scoring in double figures, including two who posted double-doubles.
Davon O’Neal led WC with 22 points, nine assists and five rebounds in a strong all-around performance. Jaylen DeFrance added 20 points, four steals and seven rebounds.
Deric Gibbs recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Avery Williams finished with his own double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Pugh added three points and Landon Burks scored two.
VHS
Across town, Vicksburg High School came up just short in a 49-46 loss to Forest Hill. The Gators trailed by only a point late, but a few missed free throws in the fourth quarter proved costly.
Marlyn Foy led VHS with 13 points, followed by Jadarius Henderson with nine. Corbin Walker and Jayden Stewart each scored eight points. Jaquez Marshall added four, while Jaquez Jones and Jordan Clay scored two points apiece.
St. Aloysius
St. Aloysius also delivered a strong showing Thursday as the Flashes defeated Benton Academy 66-49.
Carson Gleese turned in a standout performance with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals. Carter Henderson added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Carson Henderson finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
Garrod Bunch scored nine points, and Alan Stauts and Landyn Davis contributed five points each.
Sadler Lambiotte rounded out the effort with two points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and zero turnovers from the point guard position.
