VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Luke Bond has signed a soccer scholarship to play at East Mississippi Community College, making his commitment official during a ceremony held Friday morning. The Warren Central High School standout will continue his academic and athletic career with the Lions.

“I’ve worked hard and put myself out there with my team, but I had God with me first before every game,” Bond said. “I feel that I will have fun at East Mississippi Community College.”

East Mississippi began recruiting Bond at the start of his senior year. He said he was impressed with the program early on, which made his decision to sign with EMCC an easy one.

“I liked them because they made a really good impression on me and they saw something in me, and I also saw something in them,” Bond said.

Bond has been a key contributor to the Vikings’ program under head coach Greg Head. He helped Warren Central reach the North State Championship Game in two of his varsity seasons. Last year, he recorded 15 goals and 13 assists and earned All-District honors.

One of Bond’s favorite memories came last season when he scored the game-winning penalty kick against Ridgeland High School to secure the district championship.

This season, Bond has continued to help the Vikings succeed, as the team holds a 14-4-1 record.

Bond began playing soccer at the age of 6 with the Vicksburg Soccer Organization. Years later, he now stands as a varsity athlete seeing his longtime dream of playing college soccer become a reality.

While acknowledging the hard work it took to reach this point, Bond expressed gratitude to those who supported him along the way.

“My dad pushed me and talked me through the bad games, so he made me the man I am today,” Bond said.

Bond is the son of Bryan and Julie Bond. He plans to study to become an electrician at East Mississippi Community College.

Before the ceremony concluded, Bond shared his faith and a favorite Bible verse: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
