Warren Central claims one state title, three runner-up finishes at state meet
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s boys and girls track and field teams combined for one state championship and three second-place finishes at Saturday’s state meet. The Lady Vikes placed third overall.
Arrionna Jenkins delivered the lone state title for Warren Central, winning the discus with a throw of 113-0. The senior capped off a dominant season that included a North State victory and consistent top finishes. Jenkins also added a second-place finish in the shot put.
“I’ve been training so hard and this is my senior year so I wanted to be a champion and I did it,” Jenkins said.
Mere Smith earned a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.71, while the Lady Vikes’ 4×200-meter relay team also secured second place.
On the boys side, Mitchell Lewis led the way with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.03.
“I’m glad I came in second but my goal is first place,” Lewis said. “I had to rest my body coming into this meet but I’m coming back stronger.”
