Last updated:
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — More than 200 people gathered at Halls Ferry Park this weekend to support the victims of the Autumn Oaks Apartment fire that left several families without homes. The uplifting fundraiser brought together local businesses, community organizers and residents for a day centered on compassion, unity and giving back.

The event featured multiple kickball games as the main attraction, with teams representing local organizations and businesses. Participants from Walmart, the Vicksburg Fire Department and Merit Health, among others, paid entry fees to compete in the tournament, with all proceeds going directly to assist fire victims.

Vendors lined the park throughout the day while music, food and fellowship created an atmosphere filled with encouragement and community pride. Attendees also donated essential items to families impacted by the fire, including toiletries, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, tissue, paper towels, towels, chargers and gift cards.

The fundraiser served as another example of the community stepping up in support of those in need. Earlier in the day, a basketball scrimmage was also held at Vicksburg Junior High School, with proceeds benefiting the victims of the apartment fire.

The strong turnout and continued support highlighted the generosity of the Vicksburg community as residents came together to help families begin rebuilding their lives.
