Medgar and Angela Scott Foundation and Alderman Mayfield unit for charity event

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — As families prepare for a new school year, many parents are facing the added challenge of rising costs for school clothes, supplies, groceries, and other household expenses. To help ease that burden, the Medgar and Angela Scott Foundation partnered with Vicksburg Alderman T.J. Mayfield to host the Ultimate Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway for local students and families Friday, July 24.

The community event was held Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Medgar and Angela Scott Foundation, 2710 Sherman Avenue, Vicksburg, Mississippi.

More than just a book bag giveaway, the event provided students with  500 free backpacks, school supplies, and school uniforms. Families also enjoyed free food, music, and entertainment provided by a live DJ, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere as children prepare to head back to school. Scott hopes students also leave with a healthy boost in confidence and self=esteem!

“The smiles on students’ faces as they select their new book bags foster a sense of pride and ownership that boosts their self-esteem,” Scott said. “High self-esteem motivates all of us to strive for greatness and puts us on a path to success. That’s the kind of impact I hope this event has on every student we serve.”

The event was the organizers  way of giving back to the community. 

The Ultimate Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway was free and open to the public. Backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, food, and entertainment was available.

“This giveaway of clothing and school supplies will help alleviate the financial burden on struggling families, ensuring that students begin the school year with the necessities they need,” said Angela Scott, founder of the Medgar and Angela Scott Foundation. “Providing these essentials builds confidence, creates enthusiasm for learning, and helps students start the year ready to succeed.”
