St. Aloysius rolls past Tensas Academy 17-1 in season opener

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

St. Aloysius opened the 2026 softball season in dominant fashion Tuesday, defeating Tensas Academy 17-1 on the road in a three-inning contest.

The Lady Flashes improved to 1-0 under head coach Mike Foley after breaking the game open early with explosive first and second innings.

Megan Theriot recorded St. Aloysius’ first official hit of the season with a leadoff single. Mageigh Haller followed with an RBI to give the Lady Flashes a 1-0 lead before Presley Carr added an RBI single to make it 2-0. Three more St. Aloysius walks later turned into runs, and Scarlett Coutch capped the seven-run first inning with a two-run single for a 7-0 advantage.

The Lady Flashes continued their offensive surge in the second inning. Bella Barnett drove in two runs with a single to ignite the scoring, and St. Aloysius drew seven walks in the inning that led to multiple runs. Carr added another RBI single as the Lady Flashes stretched their lead to 15-0.

Madison Connelly and Kennadi Blassingame each scored on wild pitches in the third inning to cap St. Aloysius’ scoring. Tensas Academy avoided the shutout by scoring its lone run in the bottom of the third.

Joy Dement earned the win in the circle, striking out five batters.

Carr finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead the Lady Flashes at the plate. Barnett drove in three runs with one hit, while Coutch collected one hit and two RBIs. Theriot added one hit and one RBI.

For Tensas Academy, Kelly and McMahon each recorded one hit.

The two teams will meet again Friday when St. Aloysius hosts Tensas Academy at 5:30 p.m.
