Alcorn now on a nine game winning streak after defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Alcorn State University men’s basketball put on a show for the Alcorn faithful during Senior Night in the Davey L. Whitney Complex as they welcomed the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Braves took the court by storm and came away with a 104-95 victory to seal the second seed up as they head into the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.
Seniors Rodrique Massenat, Jalen Hawkins, Jeremiah Gambrell, Jeremiah Kendall, Byron Joshua, and Dekedran Thorn were honored as seniors in the final home game of the season.

The Braves outscored the Golden Lions in the paint, 38-30, in fast break points, 24-17, and in points from the bench, 40-33.

Gambrell was the definitive leader for the night with 28 points. He was followed by Joshua with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Thorn dropped a quick double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while recording two blocks. Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt accounted for a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Stephen Byard tallied 10 points and six rebounds. Djahi Binet made his presence felt in the paint to the tune of 10 points and eight rebounds.

The team went 52.4 percent from the field and 84.2 percent from the free throw line.

UAPB was led by Rashad Williams with 20 points, two assists, and a rebound. He was followed by Kylen Milton with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Robert Lewis and Joe French recorded 13 points each. Lewis also tallied six rebounds and an assist. Lonell Martin and Trejon Ware each accounted for 12 points each. Ware also recorded six rebounds and five assists. Ismael Plet tallied 10 points and two rebounds.

Collectively, the Golden Lions went 43.9 percent from the field and 83.9 percent from the free throw line.
