Belhaven’s Ellie Jones Named CSC First Team Academic All-American

GREENWOOD, Miss. (Belhaven Athletics) — Ellie Jones of the Belhaven Softball team has been named as a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Jones, a senior for the Blazers this past season, put together a stellar final campaign on the field and in the classroom to earn the national recognition.
On the field, Jones put together one of the best seasons in program history for the Blazers as she helped lead Belhaven to a fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance. Jones started all 41 games for the Blazers and topped the program in nearly every offensive statistical category while pacing the Collegiate Conference of the South with a 1.510 OPS, .939 slugging percentage and 13 home runs.
At the plate, Jones hit a program single-season high .519 with a .579 on-base percentage and a .939 slugging percentage which also represented program best marks for a single campaign. Jones earned the conference’s Player of the Year award and along with her CSC Academic All-America selection, was named to the NFCA Division III All-America First Team.
In the classroom, the Mississippi native was a difference maker as well. Jones, a Chemistry major, posted a 3.95 GPA during her time at Belhaven which has earned her multiple CSC and CCS Academic honors. Following her Belhaven graduation, Jones is set to attend dental school at the University of Alabama-Birmingham this fall.
