Charles Edmond named HBCU Broadcaster of the Year

Vicksburg resident Charles Edmond has been named the 2024 HBCU Broadcaster of the Year by HBCU Sports during the publication’s inaugural HBCU Sports Awards event. Edmond broadcasts for Alcorn State University and is the Sports Director for WPRL91.7 FM.

Over the years, Edmond has called Jefferson County and Port Gibson football games but he now a proud announcer for Vicksburg High School. He attended Grambling State University where he graduated in 1991 which is the same year he went on to work for ASU.

The awards were announced on Saturday night where Edmond was proudly listed. He is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and listed below are a few of his accomplishments:

  • Excellence in Broadcasting Award Competition 1997
  • Sports Coverage Promotion of a Sporting Event Alcorn vs. Southern University Football, 1998
  • Sports Coverage Promotion of a Sporting Event Faculty Alcorn vs. Texas Southern University,2000
  • Sports Coverage Promotion ASU Football Promo, 2003
  • Faculty Sports Coverage Broadcast of a Sporting Event, Coaches Show.
