Five Shooting Suspects in Custody; One Still On the Run

VICKSBURG, Miss – Five suspects in the afternoon shooting on I-20 have been arrested while one shooter remains on the run.
Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said five individuals have been arrested, including a parent of one of the suspects, in the afternoon shooting on I-20. The shooting occurred around 12:50 p.m. on I-20. One person was treated for minor injuries.
According to an eyewitness, a silver or grey Honda with tinted window and four passengers opened fire on a blue sedan occupied by the victim and a female passenger. They were traveling west on I-20 when the shooting happened, just before the Halls Ferry exit. The suspect vehicle was last seen taking the Halls Ferry ramp and heading north on Halls Ferry.
Chief Jones said that shortly thereafter a tip from a member of the community led them to the suspect vehicle and the arrest of five suspects. One suspect is still on the run, but has been identified by law enforcement as Alvontae White. He is not believed to be a threat to the community. According to law enforcement the victim and suspect knew each other and had an ongoing disagreement of some type.

“This type of community involvement will help us reduce crime in our community,” said Chief Jones. “A concerned citizen saw something and said something. Now we have five suspects in custody and have identified the other one. The one hundred or so people in our community who cause 95% of the problems cannot win against 20,000 citizens who will speak up.”
