Flash Mob to perform Thriller dance tonight in downtown Vicksburg
VICKSBURG, Miss. – A flash mob of Vicksburg locals, led by Vicksburg Firefighter Jorge Laray, will be performing the dance from Michael Jackson’s Thriller tonight in downtown Vicksburg.
The flash mob will meet downtown at Washington Street Park at the corner of Grove Street and Washington Street at 8 p.m. with the plan of perform the iconic dance up and down Washington Street.
Laray, creator of the event, held a class last night at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center to teach the dance, with roughly ten in attendance.
Laray said he was inspired to do this as a way to become more involved in the community and as a way to bring out more of the artist side of himself. As an artist, Jorge lives by his quote “Dance to inspire, Act to influence, Write to stimulate, and Create to motivate!”
Flash mobs are spontaneous gatherings where groups of people assemble in a public space to perform a coordinated action, often a dance or performance, and then quickly disperse. Popularized in the early 2000s, they are typically organized through social media or text messages, attracting participants for artistic expression or entertainment.
