Flashes earned a playoff win after defeating Winston Academy in 5 overtimes

St. Aloysius football team won their first playoff game since 2015 on Friday as they went into five overtime to defeat Winston Academy 33-27 on Friday.
“I’m so proud of these guys and they fought all the way through five overtimes to come out with the win,” Head Coach Walker Mosby said.
No points were scored during the first four quarter before overtime as Holden Davidson recovered a fumble and freshman Dru Gleese caught an interception.
With the score tied 0-0 in the first overtime, Thompson Fortenberry took it in for the first score with a successful extra point by John Ellis Montgomery. WA responded by scoring as well to tie the game at 7-7. Within the next few possessions, Fortenberry would score two more times while Sadler Lambiotte managed to get in the end zone twice from quarterback runs. Fortenberry scored the final touchdown just before the Flashes got back on defense.
Up 33-27 on the final drive, Gleese stepped up once again and batted down a pass as the Flashes earned their right to celebrate.
Just last week, St. Al fell short 27-12 against Winston Academy but came out on top tonight. Friday’s win gives St. Aloysius another week to play football as they will meet Bowling Green next Friday for the second round of the playoffs.
