The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has started accepting applications for the annual special youth deer hunt set to take place at the Grenada Lake Dam Area.

The youth deer hunt has been scheduled for Dec. 22-24, 2023, and Jan. 5-7, 2024. Interested participants can start registering from Nov. 9, 2023, with the registration window closing on Nov. 15, 2023. The initiative by Grenada Lake is part of an effort to promote hunting, outdoor activities, and instill a sense of wildlife conservation among the younger generation.

To register, participants need to send an email detailing the youth hunter’s name, age, and the details (name, age, and phone number) of the accompanying adult to will.clark@usace.army.mil. The event organizers have emphasized that they will not entertain any registration entries outside the stipulated period.

The selection process for hunters and their hunting zones will be determined through a lottery system. To be eligible, youth hunters must be between 8 to 15 years old. They should be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 21 or above who holds a valid Mississippi Hunting License.

For the convenience of participants, ground blinds and 2-man ladder stands will be set up in the designated hunting zones. The hunting rules permit youth hunters to harvest one buck and a maximum of two does during the hunt. Once selected, participants will receive a package containing the hunt’s rules, regulations, and a map showcasing the hunting areas.

The USACE has highlighted that selected participants will receive further information regarding their designated hunting schedules. They’ve also stressed the importance of providing accurate details during registration, as any discrepancies or false information will lead to the immediate rejection of the application.

For any clarifications or additional information regarding the hunt, interested parties can reach out to the Grenada Lake Field Office at (662)-226-5911.
