Henry Slayton claims South State Championship

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy senior Henry Slayton remains undefeated in boys singles and is headed to the state championship after winning the MAIS Class 3A South State Title on Monday.

In Monday’s tournament, Slayton beat both Cash Weems of Newton Academy 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals and Andrew Clark of St. Augustine 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

Last week, Henry signed a tennis scholarship with Hinds Community College, stating in an interview that the school being close to home, as well as liking both the coaches and facilities, as deciding factors.

Slayton will try to continue his undefeated streak at the the Class 3A state title on Wednesday, April 30, at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.
