Jase Jung Named VDN’s Offensive Player of the Year
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Jase Jung has been named the VDN 2024 Offensive Player of the Year. Jung broke every Warren County rushing record from the quarterback position as he finished the regular season with 3,712 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns. His career was even more profitable with 6,422 rushing touchdowns and 87 touchdowns which easily gave him the right to the Player of the Year Title.
“It feels good to accomplish those things especially when you’ve worked hard all your life but I had a great support system and an even better offensive line that made it all happen,” Jung said.
The magic all began in Week 2 when Jase ran for 532 yards and seven touchdowns which was a single-game record for both yards and touchdowns. By the time the Eagles faced Hillcrest Christian, he led his team to a 62-18 win and broke Brian Darden’s career rushing yards record(4,919) as he sat with 4,976 yards after a 300-yard performance.
Jung received praises from both Darden and DeMichael Harris for whom records he broke earlier in the year, some were as old as three decades.
“Records are meant to be broken,” Darden said in an earlier interview. ”Congratulations on being a beast for your team. Good luck in the future with football and in life. Remember these times because they will be remembered by people forever. Stay focused and the next goal is 5,000 yards.”
Although breaking the records is something that Jung will forever remember, he testified that the bus rides and the time he spent with his teammates are the true moments that he’ll cherish.
After the end of his varsity career, Jase was selected to play in the MAIS All-Star Game where he showed his true talents again by catching two touchdowns from 13 and 26 yards, respectfully.
Jung is the fourth individual to ever win this award and due to his amazing athletic ability, his selection was a no-brainer for this award.
“I give credit to God, my coaches, and my teammates because I would’ve never made it this far without them.” “I’m excited about being the player of the year and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and my playing career.”
