Brian Darden congratulates Jase Jung on breaking his rushing record
Vicksburg native Brian Darden sent a well-deserved congratulations to Jase Jung who recently broke his Warren County career rushing yards record and the single-season rushing yards record. VDN reached out to Darden on Saturday where he was excited to hear about the new lead rusher.
“Records are meant to be broken,” Darden said. ”Congratulations on being a beast for your team. Good luck in the future with football and in life. Remember these times because they will be remembered by people forever. Stay focused and the next goal is 5,000 yards.”
Darden held the career rushing(4,919) yards and single season(2,238) rushing yards record for 30 years, dating back to 1994 when he played at Warren Central. Last Friday night, Jung sprinted his way into the history books after a 62-18 Porter’s Chapel Academy homecoming win against Hillcrest Christian. Jase finished the game with nearly 300 rushing yards and now has 4,976 career rushing yards and 2,271 rushing yards on the season.
During an interview last week, Jung mentioned that he never saw Brian Darden play but he’s heard plenty of stories about his legacy and athleticism. Three decades ago, Darden’s name was hot around the state of Mississippi as he had a reputation for being an untouchable running back who led the Vikings to a state championship. He rushed for 2,238 yards and 28 touchdowns in 1994 under Head Coach Robert Morgan.
Both Jung and Darden started their early years playing on the defensive side of the ball but they quickly escalated into dominating running backs over time.
As of now Jase only has a few yards left before he gains over 5,000 career rushing yards, and he also could soon break the the career rushing touchdowns(74) record, which is what Darden still holds to this day.
