Lady Storm Wins Bronze Championship at Run 4 Roses Tournament
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Lady Storm AAU basketball team claimed the Bronze Championship over the weekend at the Run 4 Roses Tournament in Kentucky, overcoming a rough start to finish strong.
After dropping their first two games, the team regrouped and went on a three-game winning streak to secure the title. Head Coach DeAndre King praised his team’s resilience and focus.
“As a coach, I told them things can change right now,” King said. “We have to want to win and compete the same way all 3,000 teams in here are competing. I challenged them to focus on the defensive end, and we were able to pull out a good one.”
The Lady Storm faced tough opponents from across Maryland, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and West Virginia in a field of 237 teams. In the championship game, Carleigh Guillotte led the way with strong finishes at the basket, while Jada Erwin, Aaliyah Mims, and Kenley Henderson combined for 16 steals.
Point guard Raqi played a key role in setting the tone and distributing the ball. NyKeria Watson knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead, and Madisyn Kimble added timely shots. Defensive stops from Henderson and Zion Knox sealed the victory.
“It was a great way to close out the tournament,” King said. “We’re proud of how we came together and finished strong.”
