Madison Parish names airport airfield after Dan Fordice
TALLULAH, La. (VDN) —
The late Dan Fordice will be honored with a lasting tribute after the Madison Parish Police Jury voted to rename the airfield at Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport as the Dan Fordice Airfield.
The vote comes just months after Fordice was killed in a plane crash in May.
Fordice, the son of former Mississippi Gov. Kirk Fordice, was known for his passion for aviation, history and honoring veterans on both the local and international levels. He was a dedicated community leader and founded two nonprofit organizations, the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and the Warrior Bonfire Program.
The renaming of the airfield serves as a lasting reminder of Fordice’s contributions to the communities of Tallulah and Vicksburg, ensuring his legacy continues for future generations.
“For those individuals that didn’t know Dan, this will provide them an opportunity to kind of find out who he was, what he was all about,” Tallulah Mayor Yvonne Lewis said. “When you name something big after somebody, inevitably there’s going to be someone that says, ‘Hey, who is Dan Fordice?’ … Even in his passing, he’s continuing to teach people about his love of aviation, his love of veterans, and just generally his love of people.”
