Mississippi Educator first resident to compete in Race Across America
Ed Abdella, decorated army ranger, educator, and Meridian resident, will be the first Mississippian to compete in Race Across America. RAAM is the world’s toughest cycling race spanning from the West Coast to the East Coast, over mountains, through deserts and windy plains totaling 3,000 miles in 12 days. As Ed embarks on this endeavor, he is not only pursuing personal achievement but also raising funds for Hope Village for Children on a national scale. Â
Â
Hope Village for Children, a nonprofit in the state of Mississippi, provides vital support and care for children who have been placed in the custody of CPS at no fault of their own. Ed Abdella’s commitment to this cause is unwavering, and he aims to leverage his participation in Race Across America as a platform to generate support and awareness for this essential organization.
The Hope Village campus consists of two emergency shelters for children ages birth to eighteen, two cottages licensed as long-term therapeutic residential facilities for children ages twelve to eighteen, and two transitional homes. Hope Village provides hope to children through multiple key areas: a safe, clean, and comfortable place to live with their siblings, the opportunity to build healthy relationships, a learning environment focused on long-term success, and the possibility of beating the odds and breaking the cycle of abuse and poverty.
