Mississippi Man Arrested After Beating His Parents to Death With a Cinder Block

Pascagoula, Miss.-A murder suspect was arrested on Wednesday night after police believed that he beat both of his parents to death with a cinderblock in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Darold Sim Payne.

According to WLBT3, Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd identified the victims as 86-year-old Harold Payne and 72-year-old Jittuan Payne, the suspect’s father and mother. They both died from blunt force trauma, according to the coroner.

This case is being investigated by the Pascagoula Police Department who is expected to release more details when it’s available.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at approximately 15:35 hours, Officers from the Pascagoula Police Department responded to a residence on Krebs Avenue in reference to people fighting. Upon arrival, Officers observed a male subject, later identified as 39-year-old Darold Sim Payne, run into a house and barricade himself inside.

Officers located two deceased victims outside of the residence. Officers from the Pascagoula Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson County Emergency Services Unit, and Ocean Springs Police Department worked in a joint effort to combat the situation. After several attempts to negotiate with Payne, the Jackson County Emergency Services Unit deployed tear gas into the residence, which caused Payne to surrender. He was taken into custody without further incident. The identity of the two victims will be released after notification of the next of kin. No Officers involved were harmed. 

This is an active investigation being conducted by our Criminal Investigations Division. More details may be released at a later time.
