Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Another Man He Met on a Dating App

BYRAM, MS – On Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., the Byram Police Department was notified by medical personnel at a local emergency room of a male patient who was being treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound he sustained during an altercation in the 2500 block of Davis Road in the city limits of Byram. The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. Officers responded to the crime scene to locate and process evidence. Upon further investigation, detectives quickly developed suspect information. Shakur Shaqawane Mcgee (31 years old of Brookhaven, MS) was arrested this morning in Lincoln County with the assistance of the Brookhaven Police Department. Suspect Mcgee had prior communication with the victim through the social media dating application “Tagged.”
Suspect Mcgee was transported to Byram Municipal Court for his initial appearance on the charges of Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Mcgee has an extensive criminal history for robbery, burglary, weapon offenses, and is a verified gang member of the Vice Lords. Suspect Mcgee was given no bond by Byram Municipal Court Judge and transported to the Hinds County Detention Center.

Mississippi Law on Possession of a Weapon After Felony Conviction:
Any person violating this section shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), or committed to the custody of the State Department of Corrections for not less than one (1) year nor more than ten (10) years, or both.
