A man accused of killing a Vicksburg native back in 2022 has died in a Tennessee Prison. BJ Brown fatally shot his former girlfriend, former Vicksburg resident, Cassandra Jones.

Brown died back in November 2024 while serving a life sentence in Tennessee for a crime he committed while on the run.

The shooting of Jones occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Iberville Street in New Orleans. The incident was captured on video.

The suspect, identified as Brown, is seen brutally shooting Jones as she lay helpless. The incident sparked a manhunt which eventually led to Tennessee. While in Tennesee, Brown was stopped by an Erin police officer. Brown shot the officer and fled the scene(life sentence). He was eventually captured.

“This very violent perpetrator took Ms. Jones’ life in a very brazen way,” New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams said. It’s on video and went on the run.”

At the time of the murder, Jones had a restraining order filed against Brown but never showed up in court. The restraining order alleged that Brown punched, choked, shoved, kicked, threatened, intimidated, and sexually abused her, along with mental emotional, and financial abuse.

The killing of Jones was an execution-style murder in broad daylight. He used an AR-15 Rifle to shoot Jones and fired an additional shot while she was lying in a parking lot.

Tennessee prison officials didn’t release many details about Brown’s death but they mentioned that there weren’t any signs of foul play.

This story will be updated once additional information on Brown’s death is provided.
