Missy Gators pull off a historic win over WC

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Tuesday’s historic win will go down in the history books as Vicksburg High School took down crosstown rivals Warren Central 7-4. Tonight’s victory marks the first time since 2012 that the Missy Gators defeated the Lady Vikes in fast-pitch softball.

Just a little over a week ago, VHS took an 18-0 loss to WC, but tonight was a different story.
“Everyone did what they were supposed to do, they listened, played their position and they kept it going from start to finish,” VHS Head Coach Briana Knox said about the historic win.
The game started slow with neither team scoring a run until the third inning. As bases were loaded due to walks, Zion Harvey hit a 2-run double just before Camden McGloster scored from a passed ball to put VHS up 3-0.
WC managed to get on the board in the fourth inning after a walk from Sydney Hern. The score remained 3-1 throughout the fifth inning but the sixth would be a game-changer on both ends.
The bases were eventually loaded after two walks and a bunt by Addi Mullen. Mary Clell Allred then hit a 2-run single to tie the game at 3-3. MK Ferguson eventually put the Lady Vikes ahead after hitting a single as Hern ran to home plate that gave WC the 4-lead.
Although the Missy Gators were down for the first time in the game, they didn’t let it discourage them as they came up to bat. Harmony Harris and Lili Kistler first got on base from singles then Makynzie Dunmore and Camden McGloster hit RBI singles to help VHS regain the lead. Avery VanNorman then hit an RBI just before Dunmore scored on an error to put the score at 7-4.

As the final inning approached, Kistler didn’t allow any runs, and VHS claimed the historic win.
The Missy Gators finished with seven hits as Shandrea Lockridge had two while Harvey, Kistler, Dunmore, Camden, and Harris all had one hit. Kistler struck out one batter in the win.

For WC, Ferguson, Kennadi Williams, Anzley Keen, Hern, and Allred each had one hit. Maddy Pant struck out nine batters.

WC will host Clinton on Thursday and VHS will host Terry on Thursday for Senior Night.
With VHS winning tonight, WC is no longer in first place for a district title.
