No One Injured in Sunday Afternoon Shooting on Adams
VICKSBURG, MS – A shooting on Adams Street Sunday afternoon has several shell casings on the ground but no one was injured.
At about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a call reporting shots fired in the area of Adams and China came into the Vicksburg/Warren 911 Call Center. Units with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the call. When they arrived they discovered a white SUV parked near the Youth Detention Center with damage and several shell casings on the ground.
“We had a call of shots fired here in the 1200 block of Adams Street, just right before the Sheriff’s Department,” explained Investigator Jerrold Hayes with the Vicksburg Police Department. “At this time there doesn’t appear to be any injuries but we do have a vehicle that was shot into. We have multiple shell casings on the scene.”
Hayes went on to verify that no one was injured that they knew of at that time. He also clarified no other surrounding structure, including the Youth Detention Center, was hit.
Near the Sheriff’s Office
Due to the proximity to the Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace joined the scene. Pace and Hayes discussed details of the incident for a brief time. Marked units from the city blocked access to Adams Street at that time.
Hayes is investigating the shooting and following up the leads available. At this time there is no update on the shooting, the motivation, who may have been involved, or why those chose to shoot the white SUV.
In an unrelated event, three people were killed in a shooting in Yazoo County later on Sunday. Two men and a woman were killed in that incident over the Labor Day Weekend.
