Rivalry Week: Jackson State vs. Alcorn will be happening on Saturday
It’s now rivalry week between two SWAC schools in Mississippi as Jackson State and Alcorn State University will face each other on Saturday.
The annual “Soul Bowl” will be held at JSU at 2:00 p.m. where the two will meet for the first time since last season. That resulted in the Tigers winning 24-13.
The Braves are 6-4 this season under Head Coach Fred McNair. Before Sunday’s loss to Texas Southern, Alcorn was on a five-game winning streak where they were averaging 29.4 points per game. Defensively they allowed 15 points per game during that winning streak.
Aaron Allen is taking the snaps at quarterback for the Braves as he sits with 2,071 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns and five interceptions in 2023.
The Tigers are 7-3 under first-year Head Coach T.C. Taylor and they are currently on a three game winning streak after defeating Texas Southern 21-19 on November 4.
During the span of the last three performances, JSU is averaging 27.3 points per game and only allowing 13 points per game defensively.
JaCobian Morgan has been the starting quarterback since the Tigers went on that winning streak and he currently has seven passing touchdowns and six rushing scores.
Although statistics can be a huge deal in football, but it usually means absolutely nothing when it comes to a rivalry game.
Saturday is expected to be a tight match between the Braves and Tigers and only one will earn bragging rights for the next year.
